Very good reproduction M1917 for the price
This was delivered very quickly by World War Supply. I have made several purchases from them and have never been disappointed. I have included a picture of my new helmet alongside an original M1917. Size, shape, and weight are nearly identical to the original. You can see the color of the replica is a much lighter shade than the original. The rough texture has been expertly captured on the replica. The rivets and bails are a bit different. Another review noted some differences between the replica’s liner and an authentic liner. The black liner in the replica has a slicker, more plastic-like appearance than the oil cloth in the original. The paper tag in the original is much smaller than the replica. The chin strap is very stiff. I wear a size 7 and 3/8 and the liner is tight on my head. For my purposes, I repainted the helmet with a camouflage scheme that many returning doughboys painted on their helmets prior to returning from France. I’m also going to age the helmet (several dark washes, drag it through the mud, leave it out in the rain, etc.) and then display it in my classroom. Money well spent.

It's good
Well here goes. It's good man I don't know what else to say. To me I am probably gonna wear it daily so it's a bit different than just "owning it as decor." And I have to say after removing one if the small tubes that's right above my ear on the left side (or right, it doesn't matter which) it's so much more comfortable to wear. Also make sure the medal things on the sides where the straps go through are perpendicular with the brim as well for added comfort. All in all a solid helmet. Feels strong and great to wear on my head. 5 stars.

US WW1 M1917 Brodie Helmet Doughboy Helmet
This is an excellent, excellent helmet to own. This is a must for anyone who is interested in WW1 memorabilia/equipment. I always wanted a U.S. Brodie helmet from the WW1 era, but these days it is nearly impossible to buy a complete one. Most of the time originals are missing the liner system and chinstrap, due to them being rotten out and turning into dust. I own one original to compare this to with its original chinstrap intact. The chinstrap on the original is much darker in color and is slightly thicker and has a broader width than this reproduction. The buckle of the chinstrap is smaller than the original. Also, the original strap buckle appears to be painted green, where as the original is unpainted and made out of a super shiny, gold colored metal (brass?). There is a small piece of papyrus/paper(?) in each of the helmets which reads: "TIGHTEN CORD AND ADJUST NET TO FIT THE HEAD". On the original, this is significantly smaller than the reproduction. Another imperfection that the repro got wrong was the seam in the rim. Fun fact: Rims were added to this helmet design shortly after its introduction due to soldiers often accidentally cutting themselves on the sharp edge. Since this comes to mind when thinking f the Brodie helmet, it would have been nice to have a more accurate rim to the original. To summarize these comparison, I'm sure there are variations with all the helmets that were issues, but this is how it compares to my original. The main reason I wanted this helmet was to get WW1 US helmet with the liner intact. I was never able to get a good look at a liner in good shape. Now that I have it, I understand why most of the originals are missing these. To my understanding, there are only held in by two small buttons that are clipped to secure the liner.. Each button is connected to each end of the chinstrap. Its now understandable why these fall off originals all the time. The liner is made up of a super shiny piece a black leather (WAAY too shiny and fake feeling to my liking) which surrounds a netting. The netting works on a string system, which can being tightened or loosened to fit the head. Below the netting is a wool circular, flat cushion, which is bolted against the shell as well as the chinstrap system and "TIGHTEN CORD" tag. The liner system is nearly perfect, I'm just not a fan of the choice of black leather used for this helmet. It does not feel like a material that would likely be used in 1917 at all. Take a look at the image and see what I mean. Its rather shiny, isn't it? The helmet is super comfortable to wear, more so than most helmets. I had to loosen the net all the way and adjust the chinstrap to it's largest size. This is accurate. My original helmet also will not fit me unless I adjust the chinstrap to it's largest size as well. As for the paint, it is VERY difficult to tell if its accurate or not. There is constant variation in paint when comparing multiple originals to each other. Most of the time, the paint is either faded or rusted. In most, I see greyish green and other times, other times, I may see a dark tinge of lime green in other helmets. This helmet arrived with a very WW2 M1 looking paint job, which I believe to be "olive drab shade 2". The paint on mine is very smooth in the interior and has a faint rough texture on the outside. My biggest complaint about my helmet is the slight paint chipping on the rim. (UPDATE: The paint on this is horrible! It constantly peels and wears off. Be prepared to do some touch up work, or even a complete repaint). This may only be mine, but beware of this issue. Underneath the chipping paint appears to be a brownish red color. I will attempt to fix this issue. If you have any advise I would really appreciate it if you could help me out. Overall, this is a nice helmet. Other than its imperfections as a reproduction and its paint issues, I really like it. Its nice to finally own a complete WW1 era US Brodie helmet.
