Manganese(II) chloride is a series of compounds with the formula MnCl2(H2O)x. Manganese chloride can be produced by treating manganese(IV) oxide with concentrated hydrochloric acid. The most common form of "manganese(II) chloride" is the manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate with the molecular formula MnCl2·4H2O. The other form are the anhydrous form MnCl2 and dihydrate form MnCl2·2H2O. The main application is used in the production of dry cell batteries. These salts have slightly pink color. Synonyms: Manganese(II) chloride (1:2); Manganese dichloride; Manganese bichloride; Manganous chloride; Dichloromanganese. CAS Number: 7773-01-5; Molecular Formula: MnCl2; Molar Mass 125.9 g/mol.
