Love it
The cats like a hood on their cat litter tray, so we got the hood for the cat genie. It is very solid and gives them privacy. It does seem to prevent the litter coming out too.

Perfect for our cats
This is perfect for our cats, i do not think that they would have used the CatGenie without it, as they like to be private. it was very quick delivery and am very pleased with the item.

I'd recommend it but do read below.......
A great product but it does have its drawbacks.1. The granules (aka permanent cat litter) gets stuck in the cats paws so you will find them all over the house which leaves you two options, pick them up or hoover them up. If you chose to hoover them up, you'll find yourself ordering supplies for Catgenie UK quicker than you expected when reading the manuals on how long supplies are expected to last.2. Sometimes the granules get stuck to cat mess and the scooper removes the mess but a fair amount of the granules therefore you'll need more granules. Alternatively the scooper doesn't remove the mess and then you find an awful smell around the house to which you find the Catgenie has then dried the granules with the cat mess still in the box thus heating your cat mess and smelling the house out.3. The machine is noisy and if you have more than one cat who uses the machine an generally goes after a feed (maybe even more), the machine can be grinding away 4-6 times a day and be as loud as the washing machine (and it works throughout the night so if you are a light sleeper, you may have problems). Don't be surprised therefore it the cost of running the machine from an electricity point of view, adds £10 to your monthly energy bills4. When you have the pleasure of buying supplies from Catgenie UK (opposed to Roboshop who are not cheaper), you'll soon find the customer service to be terrible especially when they get your order wrong and send you the wrong product. Apparently you are supposed to advised of any substitutes in your order for when things are not in stock, talking from experience they don't tell you and I'm still waiting 5 weeks on for my replacement product which I paid extra for above the substitute they send me (they ignore emails but when they answer the phone, 0845 number), they tell you what you want to hear but they don't do it and yet you chase and chase. Pretty poor given you are tied to buying supplies from them for life!5. Don't believe that buying a mat for outside of the machine will magically stop the granules being all over the house, it wont. It will capture some but you'll be dreading on the granules everywhere your cats go6. When the machine is on, you need a back up/contingency for when your cats need the toilet. If you have more than one cat especially you'll need a standard litter tray otherwise you'll soon find your cat messing/urinating on your belongings in the house.I have owned one of these for 5 months now and I can honestly say that on reflection of the negatives (and there are quite a few), there is nothing better than an automated machine to clear your cat mess. Its fairly hygienic and although you'll need to willing to spend a little extra in terms of supplies (budget for say £50 for two cats all in), so long as the machine doesn't break down (it comes with 2 year guarantee is provided though I hope it doesn't breakdown based on Catgenie UK's customer service), I would recommend this product. I just wouldn't recommend Catgenie and the owner Ian's customer service methods which quite frankly are awful.

Good but could be better.
We have had the cat genie for 4 months, both our cats took to it straight away with no problems. We have it set to auto clean 10 mins after use.The problems we have is it can become very smelly during the wash cycle and because the litter is very small the cats spread it everywhere as it gets caught in there paws.Still it is better than cleaning litter trays out every day which is why we bought it.

CatGenie
I actually bought mine direct from catgenie in uk. And at a special offer of £279 with hood and a years supply of granules and sanitiser.I have 3 cats aged 3, 14, 14.Had previously used littermaid, but I think the power supply went and the small box to collect was a disaster - good idea, but not well designed for 3 cats. Was hesitant about how to get my babies to use it.The youngest one is spayed female Christine- she took to it straight away although to be honest did take out No.2's as it was static. After a week got it working. The following week I saw that Toby was also using it, the next problem was how to get Pip to use it. So I did as suggested - do not change the litter in the box which by now had been positioned by the side of the Cat Genie (although I did remove the No. 2's) and this week I saw Pip using it. Will keep the stinky box for another week until I remove it permanently. I have mine set to start 10 mins after use at the moment. I just wish they didn't want to go at the same time. But they will have access to their run (big cage as they are house cats) again so will have outside toilet if necessary.Managed with getting a conservatory built to have a downstairs loo so theirs is in that - which is why they didn't have access to their run and it is the process of being repositioned.

could do better
my pussy craves total privacy when going to toilet but wasnt happy with this product as there is a big hole at the front enabling people to watch her whilst she does her business. it could do with a curtain/blind of some kind on the front although this may make it a bit dark so possibly a light fitting could also be included??
