Formed in Seattle back in 1992, NEVERMORE developed quickly into one of the most revered metal bands of the time, representing a metallic counterpart to the "grunge" acts of the era. Blending the heaviness of traditional American thrash with progressive elements as well as the gloomy lyrics and impressive, emotionally-charged vocal range of Warrel Dane (of Sanctuary fame), albums such as "Dreaming Neon Black", "Dead Heart In A Dead World", and "This Godless Endeavor" are considered metal milestones to the very day. Disbanding in 2011, together with guitarist Jeff Loomis (now in Arch Enemy) and Van Williams (now in Ghost Ship Octavius) Century Media Records re-visit the vast, timeless and incredibly consistent back catalogue of NEVERMORE on this stunning, strictly limited box set release. Expanded with a poster flag (showing the band's line-up on their masterpiece "This Godless Endeavor"), a disc filled to the brim with cover versions, bonus tracks and rarities, "The Complete Collection" celebrates one Century Media's finest bands on the verge of the label's 30th anniversary in 2018.

The back catalogue of a truly unique band
As something of a collector of Nevermore releases, this was always going to be on my shopping list. A very nice professional and fancy box with every release by Nevermore, with expanded versions of the debut, In Memory and both versions of Enemies of reality. The debut, Dreaming Neon Black and The Politics of Ecstasy are remastered versions.Disc 12 is the most interesting part of the release and holds a handful of b-sides, some new live performances and some unreleased demos.Whilst it is possible to pick up most of the extra tracks outside of this release, it is a fantastic price for everything you can physically purchase by one of the most progressive and expansive metal bands of the 90s and 00s.The booklet contains a host of photos in chronological order, lyrics, quotes on every album from Warrell Dane and Jeff Loomis and comments/tributes to Dane from the other three main band members. There is also an individually numbered card with each copy to reinforce how special and unique this release is.If you want a diverse collection of crushing, powerful and catchy singalong metal songs this is for you. Nevermore spans Power, groove, prog and old school metal with soaring guitars, intense vocals and a really tight rhythm section. Each album has a really distinct vibe and the lyrics throughout are thoughtful, intelligent and, at times, provocative. This really is a must for those interested in the band, Sanctuary, Warrell Dane or the current version of Arch Enemy, or fans of heavy music with identity, musicianship and balls. A phenomenal band and a terrible shame that Dane was taken so young. 5*.
