I always love visiting the town of Prospect. The locals are great, especially handsome Chief Sam Jenkins. He always never gives me a ticket for my poor driving. But, he is now facing more challenges than ever before. He has to cooperate with an Internal Affairs Investigator who wants to charge Jenkins with murder. This is a surprising, fast-paced novel full of twists and turns. I've always loved the police force characters. Zurl's novels are always very well written, and he sure knows how to captivate his readers. Highly recommend.

As a diehard Sam Jenkins fan (I’ve given every book in this series 5 stars, they deserve 10 stars!), this might be my favorite!Sam’s old life comes back to haunt him when his name and number are found in a dead man’s pockets, worse yet, the dead man is a mobster from Sam’s NYC police days. If a dead mobster wasn’t enough, a retired mobster moving into the neighborhood, an Internal Affairs investigator with an ulterior motive, and a contract out on Sam’s life add enough fuel to the fire to send Sam’s life up in flames.He calls on all his resources to keep everyone safe and solve the murder, not to mention putting the IA investigator in his place. The author brings back characters from the previous books, making a diehard fan like myself feeling like old friends just showed up. It goes without saying: The Prospect Police are the dream team! Our fearless leader, Sam Jenkins is at it again, and this time old Mob gangsters show up from Long Island, NY. to the quiet TN hills. Who woulda thought it? This fast paced, Mobster-driven novel is full of twists, with "who-dun-its" and old relationships showing up in Prospect. It reads like a good old fashioned Godfather Movie but better, with the funny shenanigans and talk that only good old Chief Jenkins can deliver. I loved the tone and characters in this novel. Thanks again, My Zurl for a delightful novel! Looking forward to the next one.

Again, three and a half stars for this story! Love the police department in Prospect! Glad to see a returning Sargeant, too! The contrast between hard boiled Sam and his gallant crew and the bumbling Mayor, makes for a delightful read. In addition to the bad apples in the local political barrel, now a former mob boss moves to town. And, it's one who knows Sam from his days in New York! I did get lost sometimes in all the Italian names, hate to confess since I'm half Italian myself! But, nothing brings on the tension like the Mafia come to town! Again, even though one potential homewrecker left town, another woman that Sam can't resist acting inappropriately with strolls in to take her place. Sam allows way too much "touching" with other women! Obviously, his thoughts are written all over his face because everyone believes he is unfaithful with these gals! Didn't care for that aspect of Dixie's character in this story, though all the rest of her story was great, with some unexpected twists at the end! Again, wish Kate would rise up and give Sam a taste of what he's dishing out in the "loyalty" department! Buying personal gifts, allowing too much touching, etc! Am concerned the new story A Bleak Prospect might be real personal for Sam, though this author sure gives this man a lot of leeway in the loyalty department.

When you read this book you can't guess who did what. It's exciting alot of adventure and intrigue. You're gonna laugh.

I. Enjoy reading Mr. ZURL 's Sam Jenkins stories. They have the feel and flow as Robert Parker's Jessey Stone books.

Think our hero can’t connect the dots and put together the whole picture? Forgetaboutit.It’s a rollicking tale of goombahs and gnocchi, replete with colorful characters you need a scorecard to be able to follow; but you’ll be richly rewarded as you follow the twists and turns of this entertaining yarn of mischief and murder, Italian style.
