Check that all the fittings on the gauge's are tight before use and then they do the job fine.

I bought this set to top up my classic cars air con. Opening the box I was a little suspect about the quality of the gauge set but as it was only going to be used one a year it decided it would suffice. How wrong I was. Starting with the pump I found it very weak and not sufficient to evacuate the system and pull a vacuum efficiently. As for the gauges they just not fit for purpose. Firstly the valve handles were loose and needed tightening.OK not such a big deal. The threads on the pipe fittings was another matter. They were not a good fit and worked loose. This happened during a filling cycle releasing refrigerant gas. This froze the leaking fitting solid so couldn’t be tightened. When trying to tighten the fitting and escaping gas into the atmosphere this caused 3 fingers to receive a frost bite burn. This happened through heavy leather gloves

Arrived today and contrary to the listing there are 2 bottles of compressor oil included in the packaging. But here is the worrying aspect. The pump comes with a Euro plug which of course is not suitable for UK outlets. In the box is a device that is often described as a "Death-Daptor". (BigClive) This is an adaptor that is designed to convert UK BS1363 outlet to anything that will fit into the other side. Take a look at the photo above and notice the two items that I have circled in red. Firstly the "Earth" or CPC pin on the adaptor is shielded. This prevents it making contact with the UK socket earth pin once fully inserted. Secondly there is no connection on the Euro plug to anything resembling an earth pin on the adaptor. Normally you would not notice anything as the pump would run but should a fault occur then all bets are off and the only fault path is through you to ground. Hope you have life insurance. I tested the pump and could feel a fairly strong tingle as I brushed my hand on the casing. I do not suspect a fault but this may be stray current leakage through internal filter capacitors. I am not happy to run the pump like this and feel that there should be a description in the advert to indicate that it is not suitable for use in the UK as supplied. I will be investigating a refund as the product sold is potentially dangerous.

Buyer beware - although the listing states this is compatible with R410A units, the fittings on the pressure valve hoses do not fit and you will require a seperate adaptor to step up from the 1/4" hoses to 5/16" fittings used with R410A units. These are cheap enough, however it's very inconvenient to discover this when half way up a ladder trying to evac a new aircon install!Other than that, seems a good quality pump and I was able to achieve a -30 vaccum very quickly, which then held for 20 minutes with the vales shut off to prove no leaks in the system. If you are installing your own pre-gassed split aircon unit then this is a very good investment as vacuuming the pipes before releasing the gas removes the moisture which will damage the compressor over time.
