Grovedaughter Witchery: Practical Spellcraft

I wish I had this when I started years ago
Grovedaughter Witchery is absolutely amidst the top few books on witchcraft I've read to date. The book is, as it states on the cover, practical. I found it incredibly easy to digest, and it was not only filled with lovely tutorials for beginners and veterans alike, but also advice on safety and other topics I don't typically see other authors mention, such as consent in love magic (which was a MUCH needed palette cleanser after reading a totally different book before this one). There are also many spells that are fairly straightforward, and while I don't personally use works others have written, they did give me a few ideas for ones I can write myself at a later date. All in all, I would highly recommend this for newcomers to the craft, and have been for those in my life offline as of late. I would also recommend it to those who have been on this path for a while who may need a back-to-basics refresher like I did, or those who are interested in seeing another author's take on parts of their craft. This was a wonderful book that I enjoyed thoroughly, Bree. Well done, and congratulations on its success thus far!

Every Beginner Pagan Should Start Here
Or even people who just want to understand some paganism!Great, great book on ethics regarding the Pagan community, in some places it even provides alternatives that just aren't present in most other books on any Pagan tradition.Covers fire safety (most see it as a no-brainer, but there's always someone who'll just leave candles out wherever), cultural appropriation, closed practices, consent in spell work, baneful magic, and sections on writing spells, materials that can be used, and a variety of DIY ways to improve your practice with low-cost items or things that may already be in your home. This is a good starting place, then you can have the magnifying glass to glean useful information out of the thousands of other Pagan books out there, from under the film of appropriated and/or closed practices. Cannot emphasize enough how much I wish I'd known some of the appropriation I was reading about that, as a younger person, didn't even realize was appropriation because it was sold as information all pagans had rights to. Some things are specific to other traditions and are not open to people outside of those specific traditions no matter the argument. Will be recommending this to any other Pagan in my life because it's just so refreshing to see!

Great for secular practicioners!!
This is my favorite book to recommend to people about modern secular witchcraft. First, it's the most secular book on witchcraft I've read to date. Second, it has a little something for everyone from the secular beginner to the more advanced secular witches. There's really no dogma or deities to speak of in this book. Some of you might not realize, but there was just a collective cheer from the secular witch community 😜First, her advice for beginners is practical. She assumes you've got no tools and no common sense. This is a good thing. We should be discussing fire safety, consent, curse positivity, and cultural appropriation with every new witch. Add in how to create your own spells, accumulate tools and materials practically, even make some of your own tools, info on color magic, and herbal guides, there's some solid beginners advice.Where beginners will come for the intro, others will adore the spells. The collection of oil, powder, potion, and incense recipes, along with witch bottles, charms, poppets, and spells (including curses) had me giddy. I was adding spells and recipes to my Grimoire left and right like a greedy witch. Sorrynotsorry. These spells are the kind you want to see in modern witchcraft. Sure, sometimes we want to feel like a 16th century witch stirring twigs, body parts, and herbs in a cauldron looking dark af, but other times I just want to use common herbs and use my glue gun and freakin microwave. Let's be real. Then, there is a great herbal correspondences section at the end of the book a la Cunningham, meaning listed by purpose/correspondence, including a herbal substitution list and notations on poisonous plants. There are even special lists for herbs used in warding/protection and curses. I literally copied the whole thing into my grimoire. I'm not joking, it took hours.Lastly there's a section on suggested books and texts, and a few suggestions on where to find herbs and spell materials online. Much appreciated.Do yourself a favor, especially if you're a secular witch, and get this book. It's not very long, but it focuses on quality.I hope this review was helpful to you. Happy reading!

A well-rounded, informative book
I got this book based on a recommendation from a friend and I have to say I was not disappointed. I found the content to be concise and highly informative and there are a good range of spells to explore. I love the correspondence lists at the back, it just makes ingredients for specific spells so much easier to find. I would highly recommend this book for beginners but also for those who want a refresher or some new spells to dip in to.

The best modern book on Witchcraft on the market!
This is my new go-to suggestion for anyone who is interested in witchcraft. Comprehensive without being overwhelming, inspiring and best of all it pushes no religious agenda or shames you based on “laws” other options typically bring up.A modern breath of fresh air that should be on every witches bookshelf.

Highly recommend!
I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could! Such an amazing book for beginners and more advanced practitioners alike. I'm quite new to the craft but I know that some of this content will also teach my witchy friends with decades of experience something new, or make them think! The best bit is there is a Cunningham-like section at the back with intents and their corresponding plants but unlike Cunningham, there are baneful inclusions. Every witch, whether new to the practice or born into it should have this one in their library!
