Fantastic Game
Arcane Academy has been on our wishlist for quite a while. We noticed the price had dropped to $20 and we grabbed it right away. What a great investment! Components are excellent, with great art, nice shards, cool trackers, and top quality playing boards. The instructions are great and quite easy to follow. I also watched Watch It Played to go with the rule book. This is a game that is really easy to learn, has a great time length and really has some great choices and decisions to make. I constantly see this game on "underrated" game lists and I have to agree. We have really enjoyed this game. It is lighter but not filler at all. It is not a 4 hour game of Gaia project, but there are still some interesting choices to make which really make this game shine. Highly recommend this game, easy to learn, fun, and the perfect length of game play.

Worried it might get old quickly
So, we finally got around to playing this for the first time two nights ago. We had the same group of 4 people that we always use for board games, including our "gamemaster" who was able to figure out and explain the rules to us quite quickly. It's an easy game to understand and play. It's not Bang and it's not Twilight Imperium, it's a 30-45 minute game that depends on the speed of the players involved. The one thing that makes this game lengthy are the combos that you can create in your turns by linking actions. It's like a crazy episode of Yu-Gi-Oh in that, by the last turn, you can basically take ten turns in one if you play it right.Simple, fun, but I'm worried it will get boring too soon because the deck is small and once you're familiar with all the spells and items... that's it. Still, it was a fun game.

This game is great. There is a lot of thought that went into the design. The pacing seems balenced for any number of players. The components of the game are of good quality, and the theme is strong (especially if you have read "Finding Gossamyr"). It keeps you engaged and provides lots of opportunities to strategize to play towards your strengths. I have played this game with friends a few times and each time we have had a different outcome based on our strategies. It is definitely worth the short amount of time to learn to play this game with some friends.

... this game at GenCon because the art was really cool and aesthetically pleasing
We bought this game at GenCon because the art was really cool and aesthetically pleasing. This was my first dive into indie board games and I couldn't be happier. The game is easy to learn and a lot of fun to play.

Good fun game!
Once you learn how to play the game is fairly simple. There are some balance issues however. Getting a tile that lets you collect more tiles early is pretty much auto win if your opponents do not acquire them.

Great and quick game that we were able to play with both kids and adults. As the previous poster mentioned the Harry Potter like theme was a real win in our house and the artwork is gorgeous. It's a game that actually makes you feel really smart and clever as you pull off combos. Definite must buy.
