Very happy, much better than other brands
The lyre sounds great and holds its tune nicely after the first couple of times. I'd tried a different brand before but this one is much better quality in both the materials and the sound it makes. It is nice and easy to play even for someone like me with no musical experience. It came with everything listed in the advert, the bag is nicely padded and comfy to wear so perfect if you need to travel with the instrument.

Better than I expected at this price
The sound is nice and clear. The strings hold their tune better than I expected at this price point. The construction seems decent. Overall happy with the purchase, but only because it wasn't expensive.I wouldn't put a lot of trust in the bag though, it allows you to carry the instrument but doesn't guarantee any respectable level of safety.I wish it had 19 strings, 16 feels limiting; turns out a lot of songs go up to C6, while with 16 strings you're capped at A5. I'd actually consider replacing it for a 19-stringer, but I don't see any that look as reliable as this one, I particularly like the 'bronze' saddle (dunno if it's an actual bronze or some other metal). Meanwhile, most other lyres in this price range seem to have it made out of softwood, so I imagine they'll be getting worn much faster. And I'd probably rather be stuck with limited range than with a shoddy product - but you may have a different priority. The strings don't have notes printed above them as I've seen many similar lyres do, but I don't mind that. The strings from G3 to G4 are metal wound, while the ones higher than that are nylon (I think nylon? Either way different), so since that essentially divides the strings into 2 sets of 8, so it's not difficult to learn the strings and grab the correct one each time after just a little bit of practice. And I don't suppose anything's stopping you from drawing the sting names with a marker

Magical and beautiful!
I have been wanting to learn an instrument for a while, and stumbled across the lyre whilst reading Song of Achilles. After several reviews talking about the trouble with tuning, I must admit that I was worried, but I couldn't be happier or more surprised!Perhaps it was a previous manufacturing fault that has since been rectified, but I found tuning my lyre to be easy and straight forward. There has been a very slight slipping of notes, as one would expect with new strings, but they are already settling and were quickly rectified - and I have played it a lot over the last couple of days!Small adjustments made a huge difference and the sound is absolutely magical! My dad, who has had a lot of guitar experience, even started to play it. Would 100% recommend to those with or without musical experience.

Well made
This was a gift for someone, so I’ve no direct experience playing the instrument. But I’m told it’s a useful and well made item for a musician’s collection.

Great sound
Bought this for my partner who wanted to learn the welsh harp, but they are a bit big to take camping, so got her this instead. She is over the moon with it and has learned it very quickly and makes so wonderful sounds with it.

Returned as impossible to tune
This was a requested Christmas present from my son, already the owner of a 7 string lyre and a multiplicity of other stringed instruments. It proved impossible to tune. My son, an experienced musician, used to stringed instruments, knew new strings will slip out of tune, but five of the tuning pegs were so loose in the instrument that when the tuning key was released, the string immediately slackened. Without a way to tighten the tuning pegs, the instrument was untuneable. It was a great shame, as it was a handsome instrument, with a good selection of accoutrements. Despite trying over two days, and consulting various sites, my son concluded that without doing some DIY or taking it to a shop to be fixed (neither of which should be necessary with a new instrument) it would never stay tuned. Accordingly it was sent back, and on attempting to re-order (surely two faulty ones would be unlikely) it was not available. I have ordered him another, more expensive make, in the hope that this will prove playable.
