I really liked this lunchbox for my son, nice sized compartments, but it didn't' last the entire school year (still have 3 months to go!). It has two small plastic hinges on the back and they both broke so I've been rubber banding it and the lid now needs to be taken entirely off to open it, but that's obviously a temp fix. I'm waiting for the Yumbox Tapas to arrive for my son, since my daughter's Yumbox seems to still be going strong (it has one very long hinge on the back instead of two small ones, which appears to be much sturdier).******** added comment *******After I posted my review I was contacted by the company and shipped a new replacement lunchbox. I was impressed by this outreach and their willingness to send me a new box for free. They say my experience was out of the ordinary. I hope they're right, but we'll see. I added a star for their good customer service. I would add another, but I'd like to see if the box lasts this time first.

We've had other bento boxes and I thought I would "upgrade" to a bigger, leakproof model for my big kids.Pros:1. It has a removable, dishwasher proof insert. Super helpful.Cons:1. It's not leakproof.2. Both of my kids' boxes had hinges that broke within two months of use. Both of them broke off when my kids were opening their boxes to rinse them out. It feels super sturdy but turns out the hinges are not well made.So now we're back to using the kids old pottery barn bento boxes which have lasted three years. Save your money and head to PBK or get a stainless bento box.

I purchased the Bento Box with a single latch along with a cloth freezer bag with a handle that fit it perfectly, this allowed my son to take his lunch every day to camp where there was no refriederation. It worked perfectly and even came home still chilled. The box held a full lunch including a sandwich, cheese string, mini cucumber, carrot sticks, crackers, cut fruit, and much more all while keeping things seperate so certain things didn't mix or get soggy. The box was easy to hand wash. I think it said you could machine wash the insert but I chose not to.After a little over 2 months of use the back hinge cracked, I fully attribute this to a design flaw in the single latch causing too much stress on the hinge. I emailed the company and explained the situation with pictures and received a response back the next day offering a replacement with the two latch version or a full refund.They were extremely helpful in email, answering my questions promptly in dealing with a shipping issue and everything was taken care of right away with no problems. Super professional!

The box is very sturdy and definitely leak proof. I love the compartments. Only problem is that it is a bit difficult to open and separate. I initially bought the WonderEsque Bento Lunch Box for my grandson but when I couldn't open it without a struggle I opted to keep it. The "Leak-proof" was tested when my plastic salad dressing container opened up in the box. The dressing was contained in the box and did not spill into the bag I was carrying it in. Great lunch box.

Great lunch box for my 5 year old! The compartments are perfectly portioned and easy to clean. It is hard to open at first but I received an email from the manufacturer saying you must open and close at least 20 times for the silicone to not stick. Its completely leak proof because of the silicone guard at the top half of the lunchbox. The more times you open and close it, the easier it will get. We've been using it for about a month now and he can easily open it himself.

Ok, this thing is handy and so far, I don't feel like it leaks from compartment to compartment but it is a little tough to open and you HAVE to make sure it is not upside down and the only difference between the top and bottom is a tiny logo, so I don't feel like it is good for young kids. Other than that, I have no problems with it.

4/12/17: I'm updating my review. After 6 months one of the latches broke off, but I continued to use it--of course, it didn't seal properly after that. Two months later the second latch has broken off. Therefore, I'm dropping this down to 3 stars since I didn't get to use it for a full year.Love this! It's kid friendly--easy to open--and everything stays in their respective sections. Even juice from fruit stays well-contained and doesn't seep into other sections. Would be even better if it were slightly lighter in weight.

I ordered this bento box along with Yum box. This one works just as well and doesn't leak. Leaking was my number one concern with this bento box.I ordered this box first, because it cost less. It fits perfectly in my grandson's lunchbox with an icepack. The box is not insulated, so you must add an icepack to the lunchbox.
