Deep Cuts

This is my favorite album from The Knife. The songs are catchy and somewhat cheesy, but the unusual production makes them sound independent and unlike anything else. Karin's voice is quite unconventional. This is probably how the mermaid synthpop would sound if there was one.

I was ecstatic when this got repressed because I was finally able to afford it. It was being listed at $200 dollars in some places for a long time. This package does not disappoint either. Great quality in the packaging, nice and thick, not flimsy like too many releases these days. Good weight to the vinyl as well.

I heard "Heartbeats" remixed by Rex the Dog on Snow Patrol's The Trip Disk and liked it enough to look The Knife up to hear a little more.Ironically enough, I liked the "Heartbeats" remix much more than the original mix-so much so that if the original was all I had to go on, I would not have purchased Deep Cuts. Not that the origonal bad, I just don't find it as exceptional as other reviewers here. But I am glad I heard the remix first because the full Deep Cuts disk is just awesome (my personal favorite is "Pass This One," complete with steel drums). With very weird and very cool tracks like "Rock Classics" and "You Make Me Like Charity," and techno-poppy (but still cool) ones like "Got 2 Let U," this disk has a deep bench.With three bonus cuts and a slick DVD included in the bundle, it is clear that The Knife knows value too. So screw buying $1 singles on Apple's iTunes Store, you'll hear a 1000 times on the radio anyway. Get the full disk(s), get the full experience.

I love everything by The Knife, and this album is no exception.

More brilliance from The Knife, 'Heartbeats', 'You Take My Breath Away', 'Is It Medicine' stand out among other great songs.

It's no "Silent Shout," but "Heartbeats" alone makes the album at least worth buying.
