Fence Charger Lightning Fuse 5J>

This is my second lightning arestor the first one worked great. My fence got hit shortly after I installed the first set they were fried but the charger was ok.

I like the design length and materials used. One of their pictures shows a MUCH longer fuse of 24 inches which would give a substantial improvement in protection. I would recommend adding some glue to prevent the wires being so easily pulled from the ends of the tube. (I pulled two of them out the ends trying to straighten the rather stiff wires.) The wires will not support the tension of being in line with the fence wire. They would also be easily destroyed if the fence was pushed on by the animals until it was taught. Lightning has a very sharp rise time in nanoseconds and the coiled nature of the fuse will reduce the instantaneous currents to the fencer. However, I would think the lightning voltage on the fence either has to arc over the insulators or be shunted to ground on the fence side of the fuse with an arrestor to protect the fencer.

So far so good with the fuses. I spoke with the owner and inventor….. nothing but an outstanding experience.

I have replaced three fence chargers because of lighting strikes and now I won’t have to.
