A Metal Must-Have
If you like heavy metal at all, you'll love Thunderball, it's that simple. In my opinion, the music Udo Dirkschneider has been doing with his own band under the U.D.O. banner is every bit as vital a part of heavy metal as anything he did with Accept. Ten of the eleven tracks are classic heavy metal, showcasing the often under-estimated range of that style, while the seventh track on the album, Trainride In Russia (Poezd Po Rossii) is an accordion-driven (!) comedic look at life on the road, sung partially in Russian, that somehow manages to find its way perfectly among all the other, very different songs. Lyrically the album covers a lot of diverse ground. The title track is just straight ahead power, a song that's basically about feeling and being unstoppable; one of the alltime great tracks for working out to. The Bullet And The Bomb is a hard-driving, regretful look back at the invention of gunpowder and the atomic bomb; instantly memorable, this is one of those tracks that gets you thinking, This could have been a rock radio hit if it had just had some way of getting its foot in the door. The softer, slower, Blind Eyes, which wraps up the album, is about the importance of remembering to take in the world you're living in instead of becoming jaded and metaphorically blind. The album trades back and forth between fast, slow and midtempo, doing all them equally well. The vocals and all instruments are handled expertly throughout. A metal must-have.

Military Metal
This is album from Udo is just simply awesome. The first day i got this, i ended up playing it from beginning to end four times in that one day. This has got to be one of the best things Udo has done yet, easily comparable and as great as his earlier albums like 'Animal House' and 'Timebomb' in classic U.D.O. fashion. I don't know why there were some people that didn't like this? i started out as a Accept fan and moved on up to his work in U.D.O., i have been very impressed all the way through. This album has that "military" feel all through out it, songs like "Pull the Trigger" and "The Bullett and the Bomb" have very gung-ho lyrics to them to go along with their sonic brutality. Udo's vocals are the harshest sounding i'v heard on this then anything else he's done, and that includes Accept. The Tank has never been the best singer per se, but his pipes have always matched the devastation going on around him, and that is what made him so F**king awesome and enabled him to maintain a career in heavy metal music for over 20 years. On 'Thunderball', Udo has out-done himself, his "voice" is the musical equivelent of a chainsaw cutting into chalkboard. The album also has some nice sedate and melodic moments, "Land of the Midnight Sun" and "Blind Eyes" are my favorite slow songs and are very nice. Then there is the song "Train Ride In Russia", which is one of the coolest songs ever written. The russian backing vocals and acordians were a treat. The song is a tribute to all of the russian fans the Udo has made over the years. This should have won album of the year.

U.D.O Just keeps Rollin like a Thunderball
These guys are something else. i bought the last release "Man and Machine" and i didnt think theyd be able to top that album. but theyve done it with "Thunderball". An all out Metal masterpiece and not your typical album, from the Russian folk inspired "trainride to Russia" to the title track and power thrasher "Thunderball", U.D.O have tried a bit of experimentation on this one, and it WORKS. Whether your an old Accept fan or a U.D.O fan. this one is worth the price and is a must for the serious metal collection. Up the Irons and keep it metal!!

U.D.O.
Stay Metal.
