Another little gem
I've read all of Molly Green's Barnados series and enjoyed them very much. Set against the Second World War, but not heavy on detail, this story concentrates on people and their dilemmas during such stressful times. The twin narratives of adult Lana and child Priscilla weave together well and the author shows a deft touch with the characters' relationships and desires. An entertaining, emotionally charged read. Recommended.

All you could wish for...
This third story of the series (set in Liverpool during WWII) introduces the sometimes fragile, sometimes feisty, Lana. As the protagonist of An Orphan's Wish, she allows readers to emotionally invest in the unfolding story. It is through Lana’s relationships that readers experience the tensions and friendships of the time. The story lingers in the mind long after the reading is over.

Love in unusual places
I did enjoy this book . Heartfelt stories, from some so young. Helping each other through sad times. Such a lovely teacher, fully understanding what the children were going through emotionally. The ups and downs of doing the right thing.Such a lovely ending, I shall look forward to reading more of Molly green

I tried!
The new, most heartwarming historical fiction novel you will read this year. Well - it failed to warm my heart. I'm afraid that half way through, it all went cold.Quite simply - I got bored with it. Maybe some of the characters became more pleasant? I found the whole thing protracted, tedious and, quite frankly - hard going. I got just over halfway and that was enough; I couldn't keep awake!Perhaps - not for me?

awesome book
An Orphan’s Wish is by Molly Green. This book takes place during World War I south of Liverpool. Bingham Hall is where Dr. Carl Barnard has set up his orphanage. Generally, the children from the orphanage did not attend the local school; but this year a few of them did.Lana Ashwin wanted to do something for the war effort; but she was needed to help her father run his grocery store. She also needed to be near to be able to see Dickie when his ship made homeport. They were secretly engaged and when his ship came in, they would tell their folks and everyone and then get married. However, her dreams came to an end with the telegram telling her of Dickie’s death. Now she really needed to get away. She answered an advertisement for a head mistress of a school. Never dreaming she would be hired, she applied. However, they didn’t need her. A few days later, she got a call that she was needed if she would take it temporarily. So, Lana headed for Bingham to be Head mistress of the school. The book tells of her adventures being headmistress and dealing with children like Priscilla whose parents died and she refused to accept it or Peter whose Father was German. The book is cute and it is emotional as well. It is well worth reading.

False narrative or depiction of US soldiers!
Have always enjoyed reading books with an Irish setting, indeed, about my ancestors. However, since I know much about the United States role in World War II, why we entered the war, and the countries who benefitted most from their efforts, it infuriated me to read this author’s rendering and perception of the “damn Yank’s” role. Instead of being recognized as the saviors they were to every country and people involved in this dreadful war, they were portrayed as being loutish, ignorant, brash and even rapists! This is what happens when an author is ignorant of actual facts, or prejudiced. I would not advise an American to read this book, even one with an Irish heritage. Outrageous and preposterous. I simply could not get past this. If her aim was to write science fiction, she succeeded. Oh, I pine for the wonderful and honest writing of Catherine Cookson and others like her!

An Emotional Story!
The teachers and children in Liverpool at Dr. Barbado's Home for orphans were all hoping that World War II would soon end but the war rages on. This is a story about a young teacher, Lana that lost her husband in the war. She finds a temporary job at the orphanage, when that plays out she gets a job at Bingham School for young children. This is a story about love, bravery, caring for others, regardless of the task, an inspirational story that pulls at your heartstrings. This novel reveals the reality of the hardships that the war has on families, individuals, and children. Also, how much people have to give up during wartime but at the same time how it brings people closer together. This was a very engaging story with strong characters while giving us some history about World War II. An outstanding novel.

EXCEPTIONAL!
Having read the previous two books in this series, An Orphan's Wish was an exceptional continuation centered around the familiar inhabitants of Bingham Hall, along with some intriguing new characters. I so enjoyed this three book series, and feel heavy-hearted that the series has concluded, or has it??? I became so involved with the characters and various storylines that I have spent every opportunity available reading!!! I LOVED how the author had written her stories- engaging all of my emotions, never going on and on about insignificant things or descriptions; the stories moved right along and didn't insult my intelligence! Written with intense compassion, drama, and humor, I highly recommend this incredible series!

Good read
I like historical fiction. I read the three Molly Green books in order. I gave this last one four stars rather than five because there is a fair amount of duplication of things from the first two books. I understand the reason so if someone only reads this one book they get the bigger picture. This book Still has intrigue and suspense and left me wanting to get back to the story to see what really does happen.

Thank you, Ms. Green, for a good read.
The book was put out as 'historical fiction.' It was not historical fiction but rather a romance set in England during World War Two. The author's writing mechanics were good excepting the storylines which were dull and predictable.

An Orphan's Wish
Truely an overwhelming exceptional storyline. Your storytelling skills with captivating characters and events held me spellbound throughout. Really difficult times for so many children that had lost their families, so thankful for orphanages and hope most like Bingham with loving caregivers. Hope there are more books to this series, Please!!!!!

A favorite author
Absolutely love all of Molly’s books. So sad there is not another one available just yet. Real people real situations and lots of anticipation of how things will turn out throughout the book. All her writing is done in such good taste all with a great sense of good moral values. Thanks for sharing your gift of writing Molly.

So bad, I didn't even finish.
Good, historical fiction, this is not. Although orphans are part of the story, it is really a trite romance between a shallow "heroine" and a German officer. No character development, with love based on good looks rather than admirable character qualities. Phrases like, "just looking at him gave me goose bumples," her heart pounded in her chest," and the air sizzled between them" were just too much. Half way through, I decided I really didn't care what happened, so just stopped reading.

Sweet story of love in different ways
This was a lovely story of one lady's journey through love, love, hope and love. We often only think of love between two adults, while this story has that, it shows love between an adult and a child. Lana loses a love to war, so how does she find her way back to living again? She goes to another city to teach school to the local children and there is an orphanage there as well. She becomes entwined with one girl from the orphanage and it shows you do not have to have your own biological child to really love a child .

War is not only on the battlefield.
What a wonderful plot! And here I thought Lana would adopt Priscilla! But it turned out even better! What a great piece Dr. Barnardos must have been to care about the homeless and orphans during the war. Not every child dreams of growing up in an orphanage... but thank goodness there were people who cared.A great story about what happens to people during war, but fighting a different battle.I enjoyed this book and was even surprised at the end!

Children
I have read and love all three books in this set involving the children and teachers of the of Bernardino school for orphaned children. They are very compelling stories. The war shattered their world's and as a group they worked to hold each other up.
