Not as waterproof as advertised, thanks to a cheap butt flap
Clarification on the headline: yes, it is very waterproof. At first. The problem - and by far the single most aggravating thing about this phone - is the cheap & stupid "butt flap." The charging port... oh c'mon, I'm not the only one who calls it a butt flap. Anyway, if god-forbid you ever have to plug in a cable, you'll regret it. The flap never closes tightly again. Never. It's literally just a flap of plastic. No, it's not a sliding or hinged door with a gasket - which would've been great. It's not even a remove/replace thing, which would be horrid, but would at least stand a chance of keeping water out of the charging port. Just a flap of rubber that's supposed to fit in the butt... er... hole. And it just does not want to stay there. If I really press it as hard as I can, I might get it to stay sort-of closed, but still with a bulge-out in the middle. It's "probably" still waterproof to an extent like that, but I wouldn't want to test it in a pool. Which I did - when I first got the phone, before I had a need to plug a cable into it. I've never gotten it to close flat again. And as I need to plug it in via cable for Android Auto, I'm not even trying anymore. Might even just rip it off; I mean, it's bound to snag and rip off eventually anyway.Other than that, the phone is great. Photos are fantastic, everything's lightning fast and gorgeous. I have had very little use for the infrared camera, but I like gimmicks, so... yeah it's cool. It is heavy, FYI. But it's also pretty tough. I haven't bothered with a screen protector or even a case. It rides in my pocket with keys, a lighter, even a nail clipper, and it's been dropped on rough asphalt face-down more than once, all without so much a scratch.Might want to avoid setting up face recognition unlock though. It sounded cool and all, but the phone has a habit of trying 1000 times to "see" me when I'm not even trying to use it, then complaining "too many attempts" when I do, forcing me to code in instead anyway.Overall, as long as you don't plan to drown it a lot and/or you won't likely ever plug in a cable, it's a great phone. But Blackview really, really, really needs to deal with that atrocious butt flap. I won't buy another Blackview phone until they do.

Great Phone
I am on day four of this phone and I only have charged it once. Things that I think are great:1. It has a thermal camera built into it. The resolution isn't bad either. My uses for it so far have been plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. The FLIR camera isn't super high res, but for general use it's great. Side note, it's compatible with the FLIR One Pro (which I also have). The fitting is tight in the sense that the adjustable USB C port on the FLIR Pro needs to be maxed out in order to reach the phone's USB port (the water seal for the BV 9800 Pro is a flap that opens to the left--this creates a gap that the FLIR ONE Pro or any other USB device would need to be overcome. .2. There is an IR Blaster built into it. Compatible with MiRemote, ZaZaRemote, etc. This allows the phone to interact with things like projectors, tvs, fans, lights, audio systems, etc.3. The phone allows external micro SD storage and has a 3.5 audio jack. The PTT function is app-based. I have tried a few and like Zello.4. It's fairly stock android with a Google backing. For example--the file navigation (pictures, videos, documents) uses Google's File system app.5. The translator app is really neat. Unrelated the wireless charging does work. I thought I was going to have trouble because the phone is thick (which is good, I don't feel like I am going to break or damage it by dropping it).6. The camera is good. I am not a photographer, so I usually use any automatic mode. The phone takes good shots. The camera does have a "night mode" that allows you to take photos in dark environments and still be able to see things in the photo.7. The phone has a built-in call recorder. This is a nice touch from the engineers at Blackview. Generally, I don't record calls, however in situations such as setting up an appointment or getting technical help for an issue (it's super easy to forget details of these phone interactions--don't worry about writing things down, just record it and play it back.Things that could be improved:1. Upon opening the phone's case the first time--I removed the phone screen protector. Several seconds later I realized the mistake I had made. The screen protector was initially perfectly installed and I only needed to pull off the packaging. Blackview included a second screen protector but I managed to mess that one up as well (dust and air bubbles). I ended up purchasing a two-pack of screen protectors for the phone and was able to get the first of the two installed properly. Maybe put a stop sign in the packaging? If you are like me, I was super excited to open the phone upon receiving it. This is one of the most hardware-driven ones I have ever used (I love it).2. No 5G. 4G is acceptable now and it a good standard for data connection. Though it would be nice to have the phone future-proofed a bit more in this context.3. The SIM card assembly is a bit fragile. I almost broke it when I inserted my sim. Furthermore, the microSD card is difficult to remove. I also almost damaged this as well.4. The phone does come with a fast USB-C charger but did not come with a wireless charger. Wireless chargers are around ten dollars on the low end. I have now purchased several wireless chargers. The goal is to not have to open the USB port unless necessary (i.e. data transfer, or peripherals such as the aforementioned FLIR One Pro.) The cover/seal for the USB-C port will probably be the first (and one of the very few) things that get worn out. I can see the port cover not closing properly after several hundred open/close cycles.5. The bootloader is not in English and I haven't been able to find a way to change the language. Translation apps don't work well for translating small font characters.6. I perceive the Blackview community boards showing that there will not be an upgrade from Android 9. Android 9 is great. However, newer generations of Android have more features that would benefit this phone. The immediate benefit would be the ability to stop the phone from charging once it gets past to a certain percentage. I love the battery life on this phone! As previously mentioned: four days of use for me before I charged it. (it was at 22% when I charged it). All the same, no battery will last forever. There are a set number of charge/discharge cycles that are available. Once that number has been reached. the battery will drain much quicker. Allowing the battery to the only charge to a certain percentage means that you would average out more charge cycles. If you need a great rugged phone, this is a great option.
