Everything this man has written and drawn has significant value.
I NEVER write reviews, but listen to me Inio Asano is a literally genius, he has gotten me through a lot of tough times in reality going from my early years in high schools and dealing with relationships and the idea of self value and self esteem in A Girl on the Shore, The difficulty of figuring out if your dreams are even worth trying even if you fail, and if you fail what else is there to do in Solanin, and finally growing to become and adult and realizing that everything is difficult and you don't have to be tied down by the past even if everyday you feel it dragging you down. Everything this man written and drawn has significant value, its art is so stunning at times in this story alone it even tears me up at times. I love this book, its a simple story that looks like it'll have a simple ending, but you realize that one simple decision can cause a cataclysm of events that can ruin you completely. I can say that if me just giving the vaugest of explanation is enough to at least kinda interest you then you should totally read it...........and then buy it of course!

An incredibly average story about incredibly average people... and its wonderful
Solanin is beautiful. A lot of Manga these days are written about high school students and whimsical advebtures, but this one hits home because it focuses on an average twenty-something. It's a powerful story about learning how to be happy and finding your place in the world. Overall, this book tells you that life hurts. And it takes time to heal, but if you keep walking fkrward, you'll make it.

Perfectly captures post-college twenties angst
The story is about a group of average twenty-somethings - guys and girls - who aren't rich or cool or smart and who are trying to find their paths. Loved it! Powerful story with intense twists. Perfectly captures post-college twenties angst. Makes me reminisce for those days (even though they sucked then). That period of life - after university but before a permanent job and partner - it's an adventure, and Solanin renders it beautifully. It also revived my interest in learning electric guitar and playing music. If you like anime or manga of any sort, you'll probably love this book.

Great book, but misprinted product
I’ve read this manga twice before and loved it! Genuinely life changing and I highly recommend the read! That said, I was a little bummed that the first two color pages were misprinted. I’m not sure what happened but they’re significantly darker than they’re supposed to be (see second picture included); some of the panels are so dark you can’t see the beautiful illustrations, and the weird grain/streak makes everything look muddied. It’s only on these two colored pages (and a bit on one other black and white page, but not much that I noticed on the first quick flip through to check the book’s condition), so I suppose it’s not too big of a deal, but it is still disappointing given that this is one of my favorite mangas and it’s not in pristine condition out of the box.

A Great Read for 20+ Year Old Manga Fans
I honestly probably can't do this series the justice it deserves in my review, but I'd still like to try and talk about Solanin anyway. This is one of those manga series that I'm in this hobby for, a gem I accidentally stumbled across that made me look at manga in a different light. The series I end up cherishing the most are probably the ones I can relate to the most, and as a 24 year old that finished up college a few years ago, Solanin hits a home run in that department like no other. I like a lot of things about my life right now, but what I miss more than anything are lazy comfortable summers. I sometimes play with the idea of becoming a teacher so I can get summers off again. So when Meiko up and quit her job for the summer to fulfill exactly those goals of freedom, I was really excited for her. As much as I dream of having a summer off, I don't feel comfortable enough with my position to act on it, so to see a character take that leap felt gratifying. In college I still thought of myself as a kid even though I was over 18, but now, even though I haven't changed much in the last few years I can't think of myself as a kid without cringing. Because lets face it I'm an adult now, even if my heart doesn't recognize it. All my life road choices have been greatly reduced, and now the path my life is going to take is far clearer to me than it was 4 years ago. Now I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily, but it does feel a little disturbing. This series represents that underlying worry really well, it was actually drawn at a time when the mangaka (Asano Inio) wasn't sure if he could actually make a living off of his dream. I've almost never felt so much of a mangaka's life represented in their work as I do with Solanin.Although all the talk about worrying about life may seem too somber to be an entertaining read, the series really doesn't get bogged down by it. The characters are great, and do ridiculous things that fit right in with how real friends joke around. There is a lot of joy in the scenes where everyone is hanging out together. Asano can make the characters have hilarious expressions without having to resort to distorting their faces to get across the humor. Oftentimes in manga characters will make faces, and take on forms that are completely unrealistic, but these unnatural forms get across the humor of the moment better. I'm impressed that this mangaka can have me chuckling so often without having to resort to those tricks. I really like the art style, both the characters and their surroundings feel realistic in a way that's both comforting and startling.I HIGHLY recommend Solanin, this series has a special place in my heart. Although keep in my mind that this series feels like it was made for people in my position in life. I can't tell if I would have liked this series as much if I were still in high school, I'm not sure I would be able to relate as well. At the very least if you're a fan of manga and you're in your 20's I really think you should give this series a try. But that isn't to say if you're not younger or older you won't enjoy this series, it probably depends on your mindset more-so than your age.

Wonderfully realistic
I have a very deep appreciation for how well this book describes the anxiety that occurs in ones early 20's of not knowing where one is going in life and being confused about everything. This book was beautifully written and the illustrations were realistically human. It made me shake my head with knowing exactly how she felt. Wonderful read, especially for one in their early 20's fresh out of college

Gave me what I was looking for
I was looking for a manga a while back that would be enjoyable, but a little different from the sci-fi/horror books that I tend to gravitate to. This book scratched that itch quite nicely. And the whole story is contained in one volume, which is a big plus. If you like manga, no matter which genre you prefer, consider giving this story a look. I don't think you'll regret it.

Soul-searching
Solanin has a rating for Older Teens and I'd say that's probably about right for the subject, the themes and the manner in which they are handled in Inio Asano's pleasant - perhaps even just a little too nice - manga story, but that's not to say that the book doesn't have attractions for a wider audience. The story is built around a young couple who have met in college and have ended up living together without really planning where they are going. Now 24 years of age, both of them wonder whether they have simply let their lives drift and lost sight of what it is they really want. Meiko realises that she isn't cut out for mundane office work and suddenly quits her job, while her boyfriend Taneda who has been working as a freelance illustrator decides that it's time to make a go of his dream to be a famous musician in a band. Deciding to shake-up their lives means however that Meiko and Taneda also have to consider whether they even should remain together as a couple. That's fairly humdrum as storylines go, taking in the obvious question of how to make that leap into adulthood, as well as how to find true happiness while dealing with the little trials and upsets that life sends your way. The plot revolves however around a central incident that is a little bit contrived, but it does nonetheless propel these soul-searching themes meaningfully forward.Solanin however is not also without some style and humour (band members Rip and Kato providing some welcome craziness) and the drawing is attractive, lively and expressive, striking a nice balance between cartoony and realistic. Written moreover by the author when she was the same age as the main character Meiko, there is certainly an authenticity to Inio Asano's characterisation of young Japanese post-grads and the real challenges they face fitting into modern society.

Asano is a master at slice of life.
great read. Asano is all about writing regular life struggles and relatable characters. This one is a Shoujo? i guess its about a relationship but also slice of life. Just a good book and youll enjoy it if you're a fan of Asano. The quality of this book is also really great and feels nice to hold and flip through the pages.

I knew what I was expecting, but still managed to be surprised at how pleased I was
I gave this a high rating because that's how I felt about the product and the service both. The packaging was done in thick cardboard and tightly bound to the book itself so it was very secure and sturdy, no room for edge blunting of the pages or corners and no scratching from friction. The book itself had a fresh, dry book smell so it felt like it just came from the printer. Small detail but it makes a big difference in the overall appreciation for the product. I would recommend this book. The story is brilliant, relatable, amazing character development, and the illustrations up the anti of what the dialogue already provides. Package arrived within the allotted dates, although dispatch felt a bit tardy compared to other retailers, but only by a day or two. Again, I would recommend this book, namely buying from this shop.

I think this graphic novel did a great job of capturing that moment when you're out of education, thrown into work, and not necessarily sure what to do with yourself. The art was pretty, and it was easy to tell who everyone was. Additionally, the plot took a few twists I didn't expect, and while it didn't necessarily end on a happy note, it was more a hopeful note, more of a comma than a full stop. You really got the sense that they were going somewhere, which was nice to see, and fit the themes well.

Shallow content
Good delivery and such. The the content of the book itself is a bit shallow. Not all that good.
