Can be applied direct to the skin
Can be applied direct to the skin. Retain heat well and still feel warm in the morning if worn overnight.Didn't have any negative affects such as irritated skin. Stayed in place, but easy to remove.

Convenient
Normally I use a wrap around electric heatpad for aches. But of course if you are on the move, that’s no good. As my knee is hurting me at the moment, I stuck the pad on there. It’s a light warmth, but has eased the pain a bit. I was doing some gardening so the paf has shifted a bit, but is still stuck on (plus, knee.). A moderately good warming pad for out and about.

Best heat pad we've tried
My wife uses heat patches all the time for her sore back or knees and we normally use another well known brand that can be bought in bulk on Amazon. We were sent one of these to test and my wife was pleasantly surprised. The actual element looks like a pair of mini-spiral shaped trivets. There’s two of them on a backing pad and the idea is to peel off the cover then apply them directly to the skin. However, the directions say that if you’re over 55 there’s an increased chance of burning so to wear the patch over a thin vest. My wife’s a bit older than that (even older than the maximum permitted speed on the Motorway) so she used the vest method and it worked a treat. The pad took about 20 minutes to heat up and the heat stayed there for over eight hours when she removed it to go to bed. Her feedback was that this was better then her normal product because it wasn’t just a patch and it actually covered right across her lower back. The heat and length of activity was as good as the other product and she’d use these again. She says she certainly benefited from it.

Didn't work for me ...
Heated up ( felt the first warmth ) in 20 minutes & it increased in temperature to a nice warm feeling over the next 30-40 minutes. Applied to neck as it has been a constant source of pain for the last 6 weeks and now even combined pain relief & anti inflammatory tablets don't have much effect. And neither does this patch. Stayed stuck in place very well, felt comfy, delivered warmth constantly for several hours before I removed it prior to sleeping. Unable to test long term / repeated use owing to only receiving 1x - IMO not worth the effort or expenditure, not for my neck anyway.

Not very hot
I often use microwave heatpads to relax and relieve my neck and shoulder muscles. I thought these heat pads sounded perfect for applying heat when at work.It was easy to apply and it was unobtrusive under my clothes and convenient to wear in the car and at work. It stayed in place all day. But it didn't get hot, only very mildly warm, barely noticeable. I wasn't expecting it to be as hot as my microwave pads and admittedly it did stay slightly warm the whole day, which I imagine does have some benefit, but it didn't have the heat I was expecting to relieve my muscle aches.I was only sent one so not sure if it was a dud but based on other reviews I suspect not. I won't buy them again.

Expensive and only stayed warm for less than 6 hours
I occasionally get muscle aches and pains especially in my lower back (oh the joys of middle age!) so was keen to give these heat patches a go. I got a sample pack containing 1 patch. On the plus side the patch stuck on very well and was comfortable to wear even in an area that experienced a lot of twisting and movement (I had it on my outer thigh). It heated up relatively quickly and was soothingly warm (but not too hot) within about 20 min. The effect did not last 12 hours though - I would say it was only noticeably warm for about 4-5 hours. The packaging doesn't explain how the heat strips are activated but it must be on exposure to air as it starts as soons as you take it out of the foil bag. The beneficial effect is purely heat based and it doesn't contain a topical anti-inflammatory. So while nice - it would probably be more effective to rub in some mentholatum cream and or topical anti-inflammatory cream and apply heat externally via a bean bag or electric blanket. That said it was soothing but the biggest issue for me was the price. Even for a pack of ten it is quite expensive so overall I don't think it is good value for money.

A bit mixed
I think these are excellently shaped for covering an area that has pain in two areas, such as the hips, if you're not too broad, or around the neck or shoulder. I'd keep these solely for those occasions and use single area ones on other occasions. I like the spiral pattern of the area that heats up. It seems to focus on a specific area. They stay in place really well, not one problem in ten hours, and no irritation from them at all.I just found that they didn't get all that warm. Warm enough to be effective but not as hot as other direct to skin pads I've used. On the whole though I like these. I would use them again.

Long lasting but moderate warmth, expensive
I tried this in a typical scenario, applied to lower back after bending and digging in the garden. It it very simple to use, just take out of packet, unfold, peel off plastic to expose sticky side and place on dry skin. Once exposed to oxygen, the chemical reaction generates heat, each pack can only be used once so at £3.50 each it's quite expensive. The patch is under 10mm thick, so unobtrusive under clothing.First downside it does take a while to get to working temperature, at least 30 minutes, which I measured as 35°C, You can feel the warmth but it's rather a moderate effect. If you're sitting down, the impact of pressing the patch against the body and insulation does increase the feeling of warmth. Then again it does keep a steady warmth for several hours and, for the less able, there's none of the risk of scalding from filling a hot water bottle from the kettle.Peeling off isn't a big problem, the adhesive isn't strong enough to pull hairs. If you do remove it, say to take a shower, it doesn't re-stick very well. All in all, this patch did have a beneficial effect with the warmth relaxing muscles and increasing blood flow, Against that, you have the time taken to warm up, the moderate temperature and cost of £3.50 a go. If they increased the temp to closer to 40°C and the price was £2 each, I'd be more tempted to give up the hot water bottle.
