A great flying PlugNPlay plane but needs better Assembly Instructions
I bought this plane to replace my HobbyKing Floater-Jet (Clouds Flyer) Pusher Powered Glider. The Good:1. Good price for a 4channel plane.2. Very good flying performance. Better than my Floater-Jet. Very easy to hand launch into the wind at 1/2 throttle. Very predictable stalls. Very good slow flight with very gentle slow landings on grass. Very good acrobatics including inverted flight. 50degree climb performance. Should be a good flyer in heavy winds (I fly regularly in 20mph winds at Gulf Coast Beaches). Very good visibility in the air (Black stripes on the underwing help with keeping correct plane orientation).3. Not a good beginner plane but a very good performance upgrade of the original Bixler V1.4. Decent Finish and Fit except for a few Decal Wrinkles at the wing tips.5. Good accessibility to Front Battery Compartment and rear underside R/E Servo area with a Magnetic Plastic Canopy Hatch and Foam HatchesThe Glitches:1. The manual is very sparse and leaves out a lot of essential details:a. Need to supply you own glue (what kind?) to assemble Tail (Horizontal and Vertical Stabilizer). I used Silicone Sealant Adhesive.b. The Control Surface Horns were missing half the 1.5mm Dia Mounting screws.c. The wing attachment was a pain in the neck. One had to snake the Aileron Servo cables into the fuselage while sliding in the two wing halves. The two mounting bolts did not slide in since rubbery Glue at the Plywood Washers partially blocked the holes.d. The two 6x4 Propellers had no markings expect for an "L". Apparently these are pusher "Left-Handed" props and the "L" side needs to be mounted to face the front. Otherwise you will lose a lot of thrust.e. The Rudder and Elevator Servo's needed to be Reversed on my DX6 Transmitter. I paired the plane with a Spektrum AR410 4ch Receiver.f. The plane balances at the 71mm from Wing Leading Edge with a 2200 mAhr 3S LiPO mounted fully forward in the nose. There is plenty of room but you have to add Velcro Straps to keep the battery secured.g. The manual does not provide Control Surface Travels. I used: +/-6mm for Elevator, +/-14mm for Aileron and +/-14mm for Rudder at Low Rate settings. High Rate setting is about 50% more.July 2020 Update:Hand launching this plane from from a slightly elevated location into the wind is very easy. The plane is quite durable and easily survives belly landings on grass but a strip of duct tape on the fuselage bottom helps to minimize road rash. It flies well in up to 20mph winds. The only issue is that there is no airflow in the fuselage to cool the Motor Controller and it can get quite hot. See the enclosed pictures for a quick fix 'Air Scoop' and 'Exhaust Vent'. The Scoop is cut from a plastic cooking scoop and glued with 5min Epoxy.
